A lawsuit challenging Los Angeles County’s Measure ER has temporarily blocked the county from spending revenue generated by the half-cent sales tax. Jim Mangia, president and CEO of St. John’s Community Health and a Health Justice United leader, warned that prolonged delays could lead to health care layoffs, service reductions and clinic closures. Measure ER is projected to generate about $1 billion annually for five years for health care, public health and other human services.
